About half of the water used by villas is for landscape irrigation, but many villas use more than twice as much irrigation water than is needed. Avoid watering plants in the middle of the day when much of the water evaporates before it can be used by the plants. The best time to water your plants is in the early morning. Using a timer to turn irrigation water on and off can save a large amount of water. Drip irrigation systems are the most efficient for plants, shrubs, and trees. Installing a well-designed irrigation system can save hundreds of liters of water per day. In the winter, most plants need only one-half to one-third of the water needed in the summer. If you have an irrigation system, be sure to check it for leaks and other problems at least twice a year.
Rather than wash your vehicles at home, take them to a commercial car wash with a recycling system. When washing your vehicles at home, use a hose with a shutoff nozzle to avoid wasting water.
Evaporation is the number one cause of regular water loss. You can save water by covering your pool when it is not in use. Check your pool every few months for obvious signs of leaks and cracks. Regularly maintaining your pool's cleanliness, equipment and chemical balance will help you save water while keeping your pool safe and fun for your whole family.
Make sure you turn faucets completely off after use. Check from dripping faucets at least once per month. If the faucet is leaking, repair it as soon as possible. Wet spots on your lawn could be a sign of a leaking pipe. Water storage tanks can be a significant source of leakage. Water storage tanks should be equipped with a device (float valve) to shut off the water once the tank is full. If the float valve is missing or broken, the tank will overflow and waste a large amount of water. If your villa has any water storage tanks, be sure to check that they do not overflow.
