04/01/2017

Abu Dhabi; January 4, 2017; Department Of Energy (DOE) launched Demand Side Management (DSM) program "Tarsheed" aimed at helping and encouraging its customers to use water and electricity more efficiently in line with the directives of our visionary leadership regarding environment protection for the benefit of future generations.

The program is a part and parcel of DOE's DSM strategy, launched at the beginning of 2016, aimed at reducing water and electricity consumption by 20% by the year 2030.

Tarsheed will be officially revealed to the public through a number of presentations and public speeches during the upcoming Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2017, on January 17th, 2017 at Abu Dhabi Exhibition Center (ADNEC).

H.E. Dr. Saif Saleh Al-Sayari, DOE Acting Director-General, said; "this program is aimed at establishing our two utilities as trusted advisors to provide technical consultations to the customers, educating them on water and electricity conservation, helping them to understand the negative impacts of wasting these natural resources on the environment and enabling them to make informed decisions regarding the efficient and sustainable use of them".

We will interact with all segments of customers, using various relevant communication channels, in order to provide guidance on the efficient and effective use of electricity and water, encouraging and supporting them to adopt measures that will result in more efficient use of these resources thereby achieving targeted levels of demand reduction, he said.

The program includes detailed work plans, time frames and benchmarks connected to performance indicators to be executed in association with our stakeholders, he added. "We will implement the program through a number of initiatives to be evaluated based on their costs, benefits, sustainability, suitability with the emirate's context and other scientific and technical basis," Al-Sayari said.

"We will start with enhancing the organizational, technical and human capabilities of our two utilities, ADDC and AADC, to ensure the sustainability of the program and developing the appropriate strategies and work plans," he added.

Then we move to implementing some initiatives that have priority and evaluate their results
